Jesus’s disciples asked him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink, or when did we see you a stranger and welcome you or naked and clothe you?” And Jesus replied, “Truly I say to you, as you did so to the least of my brothers, you did so to me.”

The Salvation Army

IMG_7306Every year, during the holiday season, St. John’s partners with our local Salvation Army for their annual Toy Drive and Christmas Campaign. Thousands of toys are collected and organized for distribution, and our youth and adults participate in the red kettle campaign throughout the city. Proceeds help support the John Gardner Stevenson Family Emergency Shelter and Family Services Center.

Hunger-Relief Garden

One Step GardenSt. John’s partners with the One Step Community Garden Program through Hy-Vee on Broadway. Through this partnership, we’re growing healthy and organic vegetables for harvest and distribution to various food pantries throughout our city. Our harvest also serves the kitchen at Horizons Soup Kitchen and it provides an outreach opportunity for several service groups throughout our community.
